How to Prepare for Your In-Home Newborn Session
Newborn sessions at home are slow, relaxed, and centered around your family just as you are in this season. No need for a perfect house or a perfectly settled baby—just real moments in your real space.
Keep Baby Comfortable
The best photos come when baby is cozy and content. Before I arrive:
- Feed baby as you normally would
- Keep outfits simple and soft (neutral onesies or swaddles work beautifully)
- Don’t worry about keeping baby awake or asleep—both are perfect
Choose a Few Simple Spaces
We don’t need your whole house. I’ll typically focus on:
- The nursery
- The primary bedroom
- A bright living room or favorite window light
Clean, clutter-free spaces help, but lived-in is expected and completely okay.
Keep Clothing Soft & Simple
Think neutral, comfortable, and timeless:
- Mom: flowy dress, soft knit, or neutral lounge set
- Dad: simple tee, henley, or sweater in muted tones
- Baby: solid onesies, swaddles, or textured wraps
Avoid logos, neon colors, and busy patterns so the focus stays on connection.
Embrace the Chaos (It’s Real Life)
There may be feedings, diaper changes, or soothing breaks—and that’s exactly what makes these sessions meaningful. Nothing needs to be rushed or perfect.
Older siblings are encouraged to be themselves—snuggles, curiosity, and even silliness are all welcome.
